Question to the Pro-Life:

If you’re so “pro-life” then why is criminalizing & ending access to safe abortions seem to be your only fight? If fetus=baby, why aren’t you outraged at hundreds of IVF fetuses that get discarded on the daily? Why don’t pro-lifers advocate for things to improve the ones quality of life instead of forcing people through an unwanted pregnancy? Where is your fight for universal healthcare? Fighting climate change? Raising the minimum wage? Gun control? Ending the death penalty? Ending police brutality? Guaranteed maternity & paternity leave for new parents? Reforming the foster care, adoption, criminal justice, prison systems? Improve social safety-net programs (i.e. food stamps, housing assistance, etc)? Comprehensive sex education so people can make informed decisions? Free & accessible contraception? Things statistically proven to lower abortion rates?

Why is your only fight against a medical procedure? Do you genuinely not realize the horrible reality that would be if Roe v Wade is overturned, or do you just not care about already living peoples quality of life, so long as they have life?

To the religious pro-lifer’s, why do you feel the need to push your religion onto everyone in this country regardless of whether or not they are also Christian?

Do you not realize the harmful/potentially even lethal consequences this will have on people with uteruses?

Here’s a few scenarios of a post-Roe reality:

  • Your 14 year old daughter is raped and finds out she’s pregnant at 10 weeks. She cant have an abortion anymore since her state has a trigger law banning abortion in place & is forced to go through with a pregnancy she isn’t ready for & doesn’t want. The child then grows up in a neglectful household & is now burdened with trauma & living in poverty.
  • You & your wife have been trying to get pregnant for a while now. She takes a test, comes back positive. Y’all are both excited for the new baby on the way. Unfortunately, one morning she wakes up in a puddle of blood. Y’all immediately rush to the doctor. The next thing you know she’s being investigated for “suspected abortion” and is thrown in jail. Making such a traumatic moment that much more traumatic. (How is that fair or okay in the slightest? Doesn’t this bother you?)
  • Your sister is raped & doesn’t report it. She finds out at 14 weeks she is pregnant & decides to keep the baby. Later in the pregnancy, doctors tell her the baby isn’t developing its organs properly and wont make it more than a few days & that her life will be in danger. But they can’t remove the fetus due to anti-abortion laws, she then dies from septic shock.
  • •Your girlfriend is on her period and having severe cramps. She goes to the doctor. They find out she miscarried and investigate her for suspected abortion. They conclude it was an attempted abortion, when in reality she didn’t even know she was only 6 weeks pregnant, so they fine her and arrest her for first degree murder.
  • Your mother fighting cervical cancer finds out she is pregnant; her only options are to stop chemotherapy long enough to carry the pregnancy to term, which will likely kill her or figure out how to find the funds to flee her state to get an abortion.

Planned Parenthood released a brief on what its like for women who have been affected by Texas’ 6 week abortion ban. Click here to read it.

So again, my question remains, where is your fight on the prevalent issues in our country other than forcing people to go through an unwanted pregnancy?
